Who are we?
Centre of English Studies (CES) was established in 1979, and over the last 37 years has won an international reputation as one of the leading English Language Schools in Ireland. CES is officially recognised by the Irish Department of Education (QQI ACELS) and is a founder member of MEI-RELSA (Marketing English in Ireland/Recognised English Language Schools Association). CES is recognised as a full member of IALC (International Association of Language Centres) and EAQUALS (European Association of Quality Language Services).
What is the Preparatory Certificate in ELT?
The CES Preparatory Certificate in English Language Teaching was established in 2005 as part of the EFL industry’s continuing commitment to maintaining the highest possible standards within EFL in Ireland. Teachers who have been awarded this certificate will only be qualified to teach in the junior ELT sector. This certificate does not enfranchise successful candidates to teach in the adult ELT sector and cannot be added to in order to gain full recognition.
Who can do the course?
It is a requirement that all candidates be at least 20 years old. Candidates should have successfully completed a course of study leading to conferral of a B.Ed or H.Dip (Education) or be in the process of doing a H.Dip (Education) or in a final year of a B.Ed course. Candidates will only be eligible to teach on Junior courses in recognised ELT organisations upon successful completion of their B.Ed/H.Dip (Education) courses.
Why choose CES?
CES are delighted to offer, subject to availability, a reimbursement of €150 (50% of the course fee) to candidates who have completed the Preparatory Certificate in ELT with CES and have completed a minimum of two weeks work in a CES Junior centre.

What does the timetable consist of?
You will be given a course timetable on enrolment. However, the course will cover the following areas, among others:
• An Introduction to EFL
• Language Awareness
• Error Analysis
• Materials Evaluation
Under course regulations 90% attendance is compulsory.
CES cannot award a certificate unless these conditions are met.
How can I be assessed?
Evaluation and assessment is carried out on individual basis by our team of trainers and is based on the following:
• A written examination, which takes place on the final day of the course (50%)
• A project (50%)
The grades are either Pass or Fail.
Should you fail the written examination or the project component you will not pass the course, you will not receive a certificate or a refund of fees. Should a candidate drop out of the course at any stage, there will be no refund of fees.

On receipt of your completed application form, a member of our training team will contact you to arrange an interview. If accepted you will be asked to pay the full amount of €300 to secure your place. This is non-refundable unless you cancel your place 5 working days prior to the start date.
