All of our centres across Ireland and the UK have a strong teacher training focus with 3 schools being CELTA centres. Each of our centres have highly trained and experienced teachers who have been involved in developing and delivering many types of further development courses through the Comenius, Grundtvig, CIEP and Saxony-Anhalt programmes

Courses at CES are eligible for Erasmus+ funding under Key Action 1.

We offer both one week and two week courses. Our courses are:

Further Development Teacher training course

Course Objectives:

Our courses are intended for English language teachers or teachers of other subjects who wish to refresh and expand their language skills and/or analyse, discuss and practise different teaching approaches and methods. The courses provide opportunities for discussion and the sharing of ideas with colleagues from different European countries. Our sessions are practical rather than theoretical and involve a variety of workshop and communicative formats. Our aim being that the participants can take everything they do in the sessions and apply it to their own learners and classrooms. We provide all the course material. The participants should have a vast supply of new material taken from various ELT books, authentic material and their colleagues when returning home 

Our aims at CES are:

• To provide a learning environment that respects and values participants’ experience as teachers.
• To raise awareness of participants’ preferred teaching methods and styles through discussions and workshops.
• To share ideas and activities aimed at making our classrooms more interactive, communicative, creative and autonomous.
• To stimulate discussion, challenge ideas and provide an environment that allows teachers the time and space to think about their own professional development
• To broaden understanding of the link between language and culture
• To provide opportunities for participants to improve their own language skills.

Our E-learning Platform

As a course participant you will be able to partake in our guided e-learning system from the time you have booked the course until three months after course completion. Our guided e-learning system complements the teaching and learning experience. You will have access to it as a student and/or as a teacher so that you can benefit from it for your own language development and also see it from the teacher’s point of view and how something like this might benefit your learners at home. Our e-learning platform also feeds into Europass as our one-to-one tutorials are centred on the CEFR framework of reference.

Pre Course Preparation

All potential participants will be sent a needs analysis questionnaire before the course begins. This will help us in determining the individual needs of each participant. Upon course registration participants will also be sent some pre course activities through our guided e-learning portal.

Course Follow Up

Upon completion of the course the learners will have been supplied with further suggested reading material and useful websites. They will be encouraged to stay in contact with the trainers and their peers. Peer networking will be strongly encouraged. Each participant will be given a password to our e-learning platform when they commence the course. This password will be valid for a further 3 months after they the course has finished.

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus + is the new EU funding programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport for 2014-2020.
It has replaced the Comenius and Grundtvig funding programmes. It can be broken down into:
Key Action 1 (KA 1) – Learning Mobility of Individuals
Key Action 2 (KA 2) – Co-operation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices
Key Action 3 (KA 3) – Support for Policy

Courses at CES are eligible for funding under Key Action 1 (KA 1). This is the funding process for in-service training and mobility action for adult education, secondary and primary school staff.

What has changed?

New rules apply for KA 1 course grant applicants. They are as follows:

• Individuals need to apply through their organisation i.e. the school/college/university they work for.
• Each school applying for funding should have a person responsible for staff development and European funding. If they have not done so already, this person will draw up a European Development Plan. This plan outlines the school’s development and training plan for the next two years and how it fits in with Europe 2020, the EU’s growth strategy for the next 10 years.
• Your organisation will need to register with the European Commission Participant Portal and get a PIC number. Schools delivering courses under KA 1 don’t need a PIC number. Only schools applying for KA 1 funding need a PIC number.
• Once your school gets a PIC number you can apply for funding. Application forms are available through your National Agency. See example application form and guidelines here
• You don’t need to have found a course before applying for funding but it can help your application if you have found a course and can indicate how it fits in with your school’s development plan.
• You do, however, need to indicate the destination country of the course as this defines a part of the grant level.
• Once the application has been approved by your National Agency your organisation can look for and register with courses.

The funding finances are broken down as follows:

• Your travel costs
• The course fee (approx. €70 a day - a maximum of €700)
• A daily allowance for accommodation and the cost of living based on the destination country.
